Selling Fudge at a Pop-Up: Dealing with Storm Noa: Surviving the Extreme

Updated: Sep 18, 2023

Yesterday was my first "Pop Up" experience. I was invited to sell my fudge at our local Bucksum Farm Shop in Long Crendon. The morning was lovely and sunny but I was ignoring as best I could the BBC weather forecasts - always looking on the bright side. As the morning drew on the wind got stronger. I did go prepared with hat, scarf, gloves, raincoat, legwarmers and a flask of soup! However, this was Storm Noa. I actually love "adverse weather conditions" and this certainly was!! I was determined to embrace the experience. I set up with my fudge and weatherproof sealed boxes and nostalgic paper bags offering a pick and mix type of experience albeit in extreme wind and rain! Customers came - dashing madly from their cars to the shop to pick up their fruit and veg and many did stop and sample and buy my fudge. I had great fun chatting to the other stallholder Fanny Nilsson who was doing her best to protect her beautiful but delicate plants and we tried to stay cheerful and survive the cold. A lovely warm cup of tea was most welcome from Tracy the farm shop owner. I came away having weirdly enjoyed being out in the very fresh air, knowing that the next time will hopefully be different and a feeling of achievement. Artisan Fudge Maker survives storm Noa!
